James Roy had his first book, Almost Wednesday, published in 1996 and since then he has written fourteen books, many of which have won awards. Two of his books, Captain Mack and The Legend of Big Red have been named Honour Book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards. James hates olives (Yuck, who else hates olives?!) bad poetry and people who push in but he just loves reading, sport, making music and hanging out with kids. And he does plenty of that as he promotes his books and talks to kids in school about writing. James says, “I love being a writer, and I love talking about being a writer. Not only do I get to travel to new and exciting places, but while I'm there, I meet heaps of new people, which means that new stories are growing in my head all the time.” The latest book from James Roy is Queasy Rider, which is about a rusty old bike, a very steep hill and three money-hungry kids and will be launched later this year. The one before that was Problem Child and the people at the Fremantle Children’s Literature Centre had heaps of fun “launching” the new book. Since one of the boys in the book makes a Lego trebuchet the staff at the Centre used a medieval siege engine to quite literally launch the book AT James. It was hilarious watching him dodge the flying missiles! James Roy loves encouraging kids to write, and is very happy to be a sponsor of the InkRoom. He knows how exciting it is to see your name in print (he’s a famous writer now but he STILL gets excited when a new book of his comes out!) and he’s hoping that lots of kids will experience that thrill when they see their work printed in the Wacky magazine.
